How to

Void an unused shipping label

An unused label bought through Shop is cancelled and its carrier-postage refund is requested before the parcel ships.

  1. 1

Start on the record where the label was bought. Do not use a web order's 'return labels' section unless this is specifically a customer → shop return for that web order.

Shop · web orders, rentals, trials, or shipping labels

The void control sits beside the source record, not on the 4×6 print view. Match the label to one of the paths below instead of guessing from the word 'return'.

  2. 2

For an outbound web-order label, open the order, find the package's provider label, and choose 'void label'.

Shop · web orders → open the order → shipping packages → provider label

The control appears only for an EasyPost or Stamps.com label bought in Shop, and only before the package is marked shipped or delivered.

  3. 3

If no provider label has been bought yet, do not void anything: open that web-order package's rates and buy the newly agreed service. If the old label was bought and voided, add another package, copy the parcel details, open its rates, and buy the replacement label there.

Shop · web orders → open the order → shipping packages → add another package → rates

Voiding closes the original package as VOIDED; that package cannot receive another label. The replacement must use a new package record.

  4. 4

Resolve any price difference with the customer separately and keep the agreed service visible in the order notes or communication history.

Shop · web orders → open the order

The app does not rewrite a paid order's original checkout shipping method or amount, and it does not automatically collect or refund the replacement-rate difference. When the original order promised an expedited tier, buying a nonmatching replacement service requires an explicit audited override.

  5. 5

For a web-order return label, open the order's return-label section and choose 'void & refund postage'.

Shop · web orders → open the order → return labels

Once the return parcel is in transit or delivered, the void is refused.

  6. 6

For a rental or trial label — either shop → customer or a prepaid customer → shop return — open that rental or trial, find the label in its 'shipping labels' panel, and choose 'void label'.

Shop · rentals or trials → open the record → shipping labels

Do not look under a web order's 'return labels' for a rental or trial return. The same provider and unused-label rules apply.

  7. 7

For a one-off label, open 'shipping labels', find it under 'recent one-off labels', and choose 'void label' on that row.

Shop · shipping labels → recent one-off labels

Opening 'print label' only shows the 4×6 print view; the void control stays on the one-off-label list.

  8. 8

Confirm the original label now reads voided and the carrier-postage refund was requested.

    Shop

The app asks the provider and carrier to refund the postage before it records the label as voided. The credit can take time to appear; it is not an instant cash refund.

Worth knowing

  • A manual label or postage bought outside Shop cannot be voided from Shop.
  • If the label type is not clear, do not assume it is a web-order return: identify whether it came from an outbound web-order package, a web-order customer return, a rental or trial, or the one-off Shipping labels page.
  • If a purchased label has no void control on the correct source record, first check that it was bought through EasyPost or Stamps.com in Shop, is not marked shipped/delivered/voided, and your current Shop role can manage that workflow. If all of those are true and the control is still missing, report a product gap instead of looking in a different label section.
  • Shop offers provider voiding for web-order outbound/return labels plus both outbound and prepaid-return rental/trial labels and one-off labels. Repair shipment legs currently hold manual tracking only; postage bought outside Shop must be voided with its provider.
  • If an unshipped paid order has a live purchased label, void the label before refunding the order.
