How to

Add insurance or a signature requirement to a shipping label

A web order's label is bought with the signature and insured value you chose, and the order shows what was bought.

  1. 1

Open the paid web order and find the package under 'shipping packages'. Choose the 'signature required' setting ('signature' or 'adult signature') and, for a US address, type an 'insured value (USD)'. The box shows 'adds about USD …' once the value is readable.

Shop · Web orders → open the order → shipping packages → the package's label form

Both settings are offered only when your shipping account is EasyPost. With Stamps.com the form says 'No signature or insurance — both are available only with EasyPost', and the label is bought uninsured.

  2. 2

Choose 'rates' to see prices with your choices included, check the all-in price, and buy that rate. If you have already chosen the service, 'buy label' on the same form does it in one step.

Shop · the package's label form → rates → buy

The quick 'buy' button for a service the customer picked at checkout buys that service uninsured and without a signature. To add either, use 'review rates' instead. Signature adds to the carrier price and insurance adds its premium; both are on the label cost, not charged to the customer automatically.

  3. 3

After buying, open the package's 'provider label' card and check it. It lists the postage, the insurance fee and coverage, and 'signature required: signature' or 'adult signature'.

Shop · Web orders → open the order → shipping packages → provider label

Insurance and signature are chosen before purchase and cannot be added to a label already bought. To replace one, follow the guide on cancelling an unused label.

Worth knowing

  • International packages are insured automatically at the customs value, so there is no insured value box for them.
  • One-off labels, rental labels and trial labels in Shop have no insurance or signature setting. Typing it in a note does not buy it.
