How to
Set up card payments and what 'payouts enabled' means
Your shop is connected to Stripe and can take cards at the counter, with Tap to Pay and online, and you know what each status means.
- 1
Open Settings → Payments and choose 'Set up payments with Stripe' (or 'Link it instead' if you already have a Stripe account). Complete Stripe's identity and bank questions.
Shop · Settings → Payments
Settings is for owners and admins. Check the account shown before taking payments.
- 2
If you stop part way, return to Payments and choose 'Continue setup'. After Stripe sends you back, choose 'Refresh Stripe status' to update.
Shop · Settings → Payments
- 3
Read the status tiles. 'details' is whether Stripe has your business information; 'charges: enabled' means you can take cards; 'payouts: enabled' means Stripe is allowed to send money to your bank.
Shop · Payments → account status
'Payouts enabled' does not mean money has reached your bank. A card payment settling and a payout arriving are separate events, with fees and timing set by Stripe. Review payouts in your Stripe dashboard.
- 4
Check 'Checkout readiness' for the online store. Tax, flat shipping, pickup and the live checkout switch are in Storefront settings.
Shop · Payments → checkout readiness
Worth knowing
- If charges or payouts show 'not enabled', Stripe still needs something from you; choose 'Continue setup' and follow its prompts.
