How to
Send your first invoice
Create and review a customer invoice, then deliberately send it to the intended recipient.
- 1
Open Invoices & payments, then create a new invoice. If you have no clients yet, use Add a client first and return to the invoice.

- 2
Choose the client, review their email and billing details, and enter the invoice dates and payment terms. An engagement is optional: choose one to bill tracked time, or add line items manually.

- 3
Review each description, quantity, rate, tax, and the total, then choose Save invoice. Open the saved draft and check its preview before sending.

Saving a draft does not deliver it. Avoid real recipient addresses while rehearsing an invoice you do not intend to send.

Use the invoice's email send action when the recipient and amount are correct, then check the delivery result. If you delivered it outside bsns, use the manual sent action only to record that delivery.

Marking an invoice sent manually does not send an email. Do not send a second invoice merely because the first email failed; use the existing invoice's delivery and resend controls.
Worth knowing
- Invoice creation and sending require the relevant billing permissions. Online collection requires a connected payment account; follow the Connect payments notice when it is shown. Paying for your bsns subscription does not connect client payments.
- Wren's onboarding conversation can explain these steps and help add a client; it does not send the invoice for you.
