How to
Give a web-order customer a receipt with prices
A customer who has already been shipped an order gets a document showing what they paid.
- 1
For a paid order with a customer email, open the order and choose 'email receipt', then confirm the displayed address.
Shop · web orders → open the order → email receipt
Confirmation sends the priced receipt immediately. It is a fresh copy of the paid order confirmation, not a draft and not a replacement for the refund history on a later-adjusted order.
- 2
Point the customer at their own order first: they sign in at the store's account page with the email the order was placed under, and the order shows every price.
the storefront → account → orders
This works even if they never made an account — sign-in is a link emailed to the address on the order. It is the only copy that stays current if the order is later refunded.
- 3
When the customer needs a printable document instead of email, open the order in Shop and choose 'packing slip'.
Shop · web orders → the order → packing slip
Reach it from the order itself. The batch packing-slip page only covers orders still waiting to be labeled, so a shipped order will not appear there.
- 4
Choose 'include prices' at the top of the slip, then print it or save it as a PDF and send it to the customer.
Shop · the packing slip → include prices
The slip lists only lines that were actually fulfilled, so on a partly-shipped or partly-refunded order the total will not match the lines shown. Check it before sending.
Worth knowing
- A packing slip and a receipt are not the same document. The packing slip goes in the box and says what is in it; with prices turned on it also shows subtotal, tax, shipping, total, and the date paid, which is what most customers mean by a receipt.
- To show prices on every packing slip by default, turn on 'show prices on packing slips' in settings → procurement. The per-slip toggle works whether or not that setting is on.
- The original order-confirmation email already lists every price. Forwarding it is fine for a customer who only needs the amounts, but it was written before the order shipped.
- Reloading the order creates a fresh resend key, so a later customer request can be emailed again without making a double-click send two copies.
- The customer note on an order prints on the packing slip, so read it before sending the slip on to anyone.
