How to
Open, count, and close a cash drawer
Cash and check activity is tied to one drawer session with a counted close and variance report.
- 1
At the register, choose the selling location, count the starting cash float, enter it, and open the drawer before taking cash or checks.
Shop · register → drawer
Use the physical opening amount, not yesterday's expected balance. Cash and check sales and refunds attach to the currently open drawer.
- 2
Run the day's counter sales and returns normally; recorded cash and check movement attaches to the open drawer at that location.

At close, count the physical cash without copying the expected figure, enter the counted amount, and close the drawer.
Shop · register → close drawer
The expected amount is opening float plus recorded cash movement. Entering expected instead of counted hides the variance the close is meant to expose.

Review the close report: opening float, cash sales/refunds, checks, expected cash, counted cash, and variance; investigate and document any difference.
